Various - Lost Found Soul
Another nu soul compilation, this time focusing on the the Purpose Records family of artists.  Largely Brooklyn-based, this collective does have some star power: Angela Johnson, Cooly's Hot Box  and DJ Spinna are no strangers to the spotlight, having worked the indie circuit for a number of years.

Every artist gets a couple of chances to impress the listener with the exception of Tamar Kali, represented only by "Pain of Loving You."   Too bad, because hers is one of the brightest moments on the disc.

Angela Johnson shows off the multi-talented skills that have put "Ordinary Things" into heavy rotation on indie soul playlists.  Writing, producing and arranging her material, she is clearly someone to watch for.  The same can be said of Spinna, whose star has been steadily rising since around 1997. "Funktacuda" is a some serious funk for your trunk, plenty of evidence of his ever-expanding record collection.

The odd artist out here is Monet, who was probably given too many slots for her still-developing style.  Had we been treated to just "You Told Me," she'd rank among the highlights of the compilation.  Instead, we also get "Finally Living" and "Essence," which are throroughly ordinary.
