Ben Westbeech - Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life
As the artist chosen to kick off Gilles Peterson's Brownswood label, Ben Westbeech is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders.  Thankfully he passes all tests with flying colors, because Welcome To The Best Years Of Your Life is a refreshing debut from an artist who should be around for a while.

Comparisons to early Jamiroquai are valid, as Westbeech shares Jason Kay's vocal range and love for a soulful tune.  Examples of these similarities are numerous on the disc and include "Get Silly," "Dance With Me," "Pusherman," and fan favorite "So Good Today." The alternate version of "So Good Today" recorded with the Dap Kings is worth hunting down.

Westbeech shows his versatility with the instrumentals "Beauty" and "Grey Skies," as well as the drum-n-bass styled "Get Closer," which is one of the album's best tunes.  Such variety more than justifies the hype and signals the arrival of a major new talent.
